Dear Cappy Families,
On Friday, we had another Cappy Connect assembly, where one student per teacher was awarded a certificate. The certificates were for a variety of positive acts at school, including having a resilient approach to school work, showing kindness to others, and for always being a positive influence in the school. Sadly, a few of our recipients were away on Friday. Fridays are important days, and we do literacy, math, and inter-disciplinary work. Three hours and five minutes of uninterrupted learning time is significant. Unless your child is sick, they should be at school on Fridays.
A message shared on Friday is that everybody BELONGS at Cappy, regardless of race, culture, religion, and identity. Recently we have had to remind our students that they may not make others feel like they do not belong just because they are different from others. We are a public school, and as such, we believe in following the Alberta and Canada Human Rights Acts, which includes making sure all protected groups are treated with dignity. June is a busy month, and include many heritage recognitions, World Refugee day, Eid al-Adha, Summer Solstice, and National Indigenous Peoples Day. June is also Pride Month, a time to recognize the pursuit of equality and rights for 2SLGBTQ+ individuals. During Pride Month, we can recognize the valuable contributions individuals of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities have made to history and society. This year, we reaffirm our commitment to creating safe and caring learning and work environments for 2SLGBTQ+ students and staff.
Leaving Cappy Smart School?
Is your family moving and your children will be attending a new school? Please inform the office as soon as possible. Thanks so much for helping us keep track of our enrollments, as it helps us with planning for next year.
Next School Year - Bell Time Changes 2024-2025
Next year we will be changing our school bell times. We teach bell to bell, so please note that students are not released before the end of day. The young students, if they are not yet independent, take time to put on their coats and gather their belongings! This is a great reason to work on each of your children's independence. By midway through Kinder, students should be able to tie their own shoes, zip up their jackets, put on snow pants, and pack their lunch kits and home communication journals into their backpacks. Children are capable of these things and may need more opportunity to practice with you. If your child is unable to do these things, please practice over the summer!

This means only Cappy students and their supervising adult can attend. It will be a first-come first-served sign up – please watch for a notice coming home later this week.
Take good care,
Rachel MacDonald, Principal
