Cappy Office Communications - January 5, 2025

Upcoming Events:

  • Tuesday, Jan 7 - Girls Sports group, grade 5&6 combined, 3-4 pm

Hello Cappy families,

I hope you have had a restful holiday and lots of time to reconnect. I have missed you and your amazing students! Tomorrow we will all be returning to school, and we may have many anxious and excited children, staff and parents.

Some reminders before school starts:

  • Your child(ren) are out of their routine. Try to get them to bed early tonight. Turn off the video games and phones! Read them a book!
  • Have them pack their bags, agendas, lunches, and lay out their clothes before bed. Have them gather their winter outdoor clothes near the door. This will help with the morning struggle and help them be ready to come back to school.
  • If your child is exceptionally nervous, have them write a note to or draw a picture for their teacher, or their favourite adult in the building, sharing what they are nervous about and what they might need tomorrow from an adult. This is an excellent opportunity for a new beginning – children need the opportunity to share their thoughts and their strategies. Such a healthy habit!
  • Ensure that they have proper clothing for outdoors. We go outside up to –20 degrees Celsius, which means our children will be outside in the cold. They need boots, mitts, hats, coats and pants. We will not be allowing children to stay indoors unless we have a doctor's note explaining why they need to be inside.

Morning reminders:

  • Please have your child to school on time; in December we had a large increase in late students. Many were coming in at the same time or after our EES students start, which means they are over 10 minutes late!
  • We start structured literacy lessons at the beginning of the day. School starts for our typical grades 1-6 at 8 a.m.; breakfast doors open at 7:40 a.m., and all other students can enter between 7:55-8:00 a.m.. EES yellow busses arrive at 8:10 a.m. We have our EES start later so that the busses and students can arrive after all of our other students to avoid too much traffic in the halls and streets.
  • Leave home earlier during winter weather. It will be slower with snow and ice.

Traffic:

  • ONLY cross at the crosswalks
  • DO NOT do any u-turns on Madigan Drive, it's dangerous and illegal. It is also not allowed to u-turn at any intersection. This includes using the parking lots to u-turn.
  • It is illegal to pass another car in a playground zone, including cars that are waiting to turn into a parking spot.
  • Have your students walk across the fields, so that you and your children avoid high traffic areas.

Take care, and we will see you tomorrow morning!
