Upcoming Events
Dear Cappy Families, This is a long message today; please read to the end. The last few weeks has demonstrated that it's important for me to re-iterate some important reminders for students and families. Thank you for your ongoing support and care of our little, but mighty, Cappy school. Thursday afternoon we had our 2nd Cappy Connect. Cappy Connect is a time when we gather as a whole school, share common messages, and celebrate our Cappy students who have earned a certificate. The certificates are given out by staff to a student in their class who has stood out for commitment to learning, being a great friend, being positive, and other reasons. Your student also received a beautiful gift just before Cappy Connect...a Cappy Smart t-shirt! The SUPER Cappy School Parent Council donated fundraising funds, so that every child at Cappy has their very own gear. Thank you to our council for this awesome gift. Our students are wearing their shirts with pride! invite| Commun-I-Tea to Build Community– November 18, 2024 As a part of the Cappy Smart School Truth and Reconciliation Commitment, will be hosting Commun-I-Tea events during the year. A Commun-I-Tea is an Indigenous protocol for visiting with others, learning about one another, and solving problems. Through visiting we develop understanding, meaningful relationships and empathy for one another. Our first Commu-I-Tea is tomorrow, Monday November 18 at 3:15pm in the Learning Commons. We invite all families to join us for a visit and some refreshments as we build an even stronger Cappy Smart School community. See you there!

Important School Expectation REMINDERS | Parents and Guardians
Picking up on Time: As a school, our staff has committed significant extra time for your students so that they can have extended learning experiences. We love being a community hub and we have some boundaries that we must keep! Recently, we have had many instances where families are not following the school expectations. Every day we have several students who have not been picked up on time and/or arrive late. We have a school schedule to keep and a lot of moving bodies. We need our families to be on time for drop off and pick up – this is a family responsibility and expectation.
Being Late: When your child is consistently late for class, they miss Literacy/reading instruction. During the morning, we do our reading and word work. I cannot stress enough how important this work is. Reading IS the FOUNDATION of all future learning; children who read well, will have a much higher chance of success throughout their schooling. What is the actual impact of being consistently late to school? For example, a grade 1 student, learns at least 2 concepts per week connecting letters to sounds and within the written word. If they miss ½ hour every morning that student is now falling far behind grade level, as they will not have the instruction for those word concepts. This is something that is not easily taught at home. Again, I cannot stress enough, how important it is for your child's learning, that they are at school and on time. Children who are late every morning now have critical gaps in learning the code of reading. Additionally, when your child is consistently late in the morning or for kindergarten, our office is also significantly impacted. We only have one secretary and she is doing all that she can to manage phone calls, answer doors, ensure she's writing down the names of the late students, getting the substitute staff sorted, and so forth. The front door entry bell is constantly ringing and students are running past the office without checking in, which is creating an issue at the door that does not need to happen. Kindergarten families, there are several students who are not using the front door (because they are consistently late). Please ensure that you are here early enough to be entering in the NW doors.
After-School Clubs: We are NOT able to look after younger siblings during after school clubs. Ensure that you have arranged pick-up for the younger children at the end of the day. Older children (grades 4,5,6) are released out the front doors at the end of the club time without supervision.
Breakfast Club: Runs ONLY Monday through Thursday, 7:40 – 8:00. The front door is unlocked from 7:40-7:45. Any child who arrives after this time is expected to wait outside at north east doors.
Morning entry:
Adult Entry into the Building: Parents and Guardians are visitors during the day. All visitors must check into the office and are not allowed to go into the building without permission during the school day. This is a rule across ALL CBE school buildings and is for the security of all students. Our students are independent individuals who are able to walk from the office to their classes alone, even Kinder students. For our EES students, we have parents wait until staff pick the student up at the office. Thank you families, Rachel MacDonald, Principal Be kind. Be courageous. Be Cappy Smart. |
