Dear Cappy Families,

Cree8 Residency

We had a wonderful week of drumming with Ms. Chantal. Our students loved hearing her stories and practicing drumming. Ms. Chantal makes all of her drums and drumsticks by hand, with moose, elk, deer, or buffalo hide. During her time with our students, Ms. Chantal shared the special qualities of each of the animals and their meaning to Cree , Anishinaabe , and Metis cultures. She also shared many stories about the bear. Be sure to ask your students what they learned from Ms. Chantal. Cappy Smart School was able to book Ms. Chantal with the funds that we raised from the previous casino. We are so appreciative to our Parent Society for supporting our students with these significant residencies, which are a very important step towards our commitment of building community and teaching for reconciliation.

Welcome Back Ms. Sarah

Ms. Duguay returns from  her leave tomorrow! Many thanks to Ms. Gillingham for doing a great job with the class while she was away! Our students have thrived with Ms. G and they will be thrill to have Ms. Sarah back!

Happy Retirement Ms. Mutual

Ms. Mutual, our long time Educational Assistant, is retiring this week! Thursday will be her last day working with our students. We wish Ms. Mutual all the best as she embarks on her retirement journey! She has been an outstanding support to our school and community.

Nation's Vision Eye Care Clinic

We have the Nation's Vision team with us all week, doing free eye tests for students who returned their forms. The forms had to be completed and signed. Many forms came back unsigned so unfortunately, without the signature, we will not be able to proceed with the eye testing. This is an excellent opportunity for your child to have their eyes checked. It is recommended that children have their eyes tested once per year. As mentioned before, Nation's Vision will support families without the funds, to purchase glasses for students who need them.

Take care Cappy families,

Rachel MacDonald, Principal

Be kind. Be courageous. Be Cappy Smart!
