Greetings Cappy Families,

Our last week of school before the break is filled with learning. Our teachers plan to use every opportunity to continue instruction in their classes.

Each day missed equals 406 minutes of social and academic learning (Fridays are 185 minutes). In a week, this totals 1813 minutes or 30 hours of learning time! Another way to think of this is each week we spend 650 minutes, or 11 hours,  in targeted literacy instruction (learning to read). Elementary school is a very important time for foundational learning in mathematics and reading. This learning is critical for continued academic success throughout a child's years at school. Please, unless your child is sick, send them to school this week!

Thinking of a Gift?

The best gift we could ask for is the gift of your time through volunteer work! Every gift of time, no matter how big or small, has an impact on our school's ability to provide experiences for kids.

Our teachers really want to be able to take our students on field trips. Sadly, we have an ongoing and serious problem with not enough volunteers. If you are thinking about a gift for us, please consider giving us the gift of a volunteer clearance.

We are also looking for volunteers to run a once-per-week after school sports program for our boys.

If you know of anyone over 18 who is looking to volunteer, please encourage them to reach out to our main office or visit our Volunteer page on the CBE website.  They must have a recent and valid police check, which is shared with the school, to be able to volunteer.

Winter Theme Week

Thanks to our student volunteers and Ms. Mahon for organizing a Winter Themed Week:

  • Monday – Red/Green/White Day
  • Tuesday – Favourite Winter/Holiday Story – children are encouraged to share their favourite winter and cultural stories with their classmates
  • Wednesday – Festive Holiday & Accessories Day
  • Thursday – Gingerbread Day
  • Friday – PJ/Comfy Clothes and Slime Day; Keep Cappy Connected gathering in the gym

NO "Sit Down" Breakfast this week

Parents, there will be no sit down breakfast from 7:40-8:00 am this week. Our breakfast supervisor is away and we are unable to fill her position. DO NOT send kids for the early breakfast; there is no supervisor! Much appreciated! Sit down breakfast will resume in January.

Take care,

Rachel MacDonald, Principal

Be kind. Be courageous. Be Cappy Smart!
