Cappy Office Communications - Sept 27, 2023

Greetings Cappy Families,

It's been another busy week of learning at Cappy! There is NO SCHOOL on Friday, Sept 29 for students and staff. It is a day to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

School Council meeting tonight at 5:30pm - Learning Commons

We are holding our first school council and parent society meeting today at 5:30 pm in the Learning Commons. Any parent is welcome to join us to learn more about the important role school council has at Cappy!

Orange Shirt Day Assembly - Tomorrow at 12:15

We are having our Orange Shirt Day assembly tomorrow at 12:15-12:45, which means our student's lunch time will be starting 15 minutes late and will go until 1:30.  During the assembly we will be sharing a land acknowledgement, sharing stories about why we have Orange Shirt Day, and talking about the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We are asking all students to wear orange shirts. For our students who don't have orange shirts, they could wear orange hair ties, make an orange shirt badge, or wear their favourite shirt. The orange shirt and wearing orange honours and supports for our First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities.  Parents are welcome to join us for our assembly, but please wear orange!

Cappy Community Art Installation

You may have noticed that we have finished putting up the beautiful artwork from our community paint night event on June 21.  Our students had the opportunity to visit the art work while they were tieing their orange ribbons to the fence and huge thanks to everyone who particpated in our paint night evening.

Lockdown Practice at School

Today we had our first lockdown practice of the year!  Our students did a fantastic job staying quiet and following the teachers' directions. Because our practice lockdown started a little earlier than usual, many of our students had practice learning to hide in the bathrooms, or other classrooms. I always share wtih students the importance of practice, as it teaches them how to respond if ever there was a real event.  Lockdown practice happens two times a year. It is an important part of our emergency response training and is done with the support of our School Resource Calgary Police officers.

Take care families, and have a super Cappy evening!
