Dear Cappy Families,
It was wonderful to connect with families during our meet the teacher night! Thank you taking the time to connect with your child's teacher.
Orange Shirt Day
On September 30, Canada observes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a day to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, as well as Survivors, their families, and Indigenous communities. It is an opportunity to reflect on the lasting impacts of residential schools, deepen our understanding of Indigenous experiences, and consider our shared responsibility in the journey toward reconciliation.
At Cappy Smart School, we are committed to fostering learning and understanding about Indigenous histories, cultures, perspectives, and contributions throughout the school year. In the days leading up to September 30, students will participate in age-appropriate learning experiences that encourage reflection, respect, and a greater awareness of the importance of truth and reconciliation.
To recognize Orange Shirt Day, we will hold a school assembly on Tuesday, September 29 at 8:30 a.m. The assembly will provide an opportunity for our school community to come together to learn, reflect, and honour the stories and experiences of Indigenous peoples. Families are welcome to attend.
Please note that there will be no school for students on September 30, as schools will be closed in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. We encourage families to take time to learn together, reflect on the significance of the day, and participate in community events or conversations that support reconciliation.
Individual Program Plans
Families with students who have Individual Program Plans (IPPs) are invited to meet with teachers to review this important document on October 9th in the afternoon. Teachers will be connecting with families soon to schedule appointments.
